KinesioTaping
What it is
Kinesio Tape, also called Kinesio Tex Tape, is the original elastic adhesive tape developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in 1979. Kinesio Tape is latex-free, hypoallergenic and wearable for days at a time. It is safe for populations from elite athletes, weekend warriors to geriatric and pediatric patients.
- 100% made from a gentle cotton fiber strip
- 100% medical grade acrylic adhesive
- 100% latex-free
- Hypoallergenic
- Water-resistant
- Does not limit range of motion
- Multiple day wear time
- Tension on tape has the ability to relax or stimulate muscles
Kinesio Tape alleviates discomfort and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation, reducing pressure while enabling a more effective flow of lymphatic fluid in and out of the target area.
Based upon years of clinical use, Kinesio Tape is specifically applied to the patient based upon their needs after evaluation.
When it's used
Here are some example:
- BACK PAIN, such as NECK, UPPER, MIDDLE, LOWER back pain, etc.
- JOINT and soft tissues SWELLING, related to injuries (e.g. Ankle Sprain)
- JOINT PAIN, related to injuries (e.g. Ankle Sprain), stiffness, etc.
- MUSCLE PAIN, related to injuries (e.g. strain), tightness, stiffness, etc.
- SPORT-RELATED PAIN, related to injuries, wrong technique, over-training, posture, etc.
- HEADACHE & MIGRAINE when related to the cervical area (e.g. 'tension headache')
- POSTURAL DISCOMFORTS, related to poor posture, job, workstation, computer, etc.
- Etc...
Treatment
The findings of the clinical evaluation or assessment dictate the specifics of the Kinesio Tape application and other possible treatments or modalities. With the utilization of single βIβ strips or modifications in the shape of an βXβ, βYβ or other specialized shapes as well as the direction and amount of stretch placed on the tape at time of application, Kinesio Tape can be applied in hundreds of ways and has the ability to re-educate the neuromuscular system, reduce inflammation, prevent injury and promote good circulation and healing, and assist in returning the body to homeostasis.
F.A.Q.
What is the difference between the colors?
There is no physical or chemical difference between the colors. The colors were developed to be compatible with color therapy. The beige was created for minimal visibility and the black was created after many requests. Color choice is a matter of individual preference. The colors can provide field advertising at athletic events, a conversational opener, and instant product recognition.
Is the tape water resistant?
Usually all tapes are water resistant. For the best hold, itβs best if the tape is applied before activity and that the skin is clean, dry and free of any lotions or oils. It is recommended that after the tape is applied to the skin that the tape is rubbed to activate the adhesive as well as to help it adhere.
How long will the tape last?
Normally 3 to 5 days.
It all depends on the application and the usage. The tape can remain on for a number of days since it is water resistant, however it should be removed in case of itchiness. The length of time will vary depending on the area of application. For example, applying to the feet may only last 1-2 days (more wear and tear) whilst the postural area could last 5+ days.
